Spike Lee, the President of the Jury returns for the 74th Cannes Film Festival

24 April 2021

The Cannes Film Festival is pleased to confirm that the American Spike Lee will be the President of the Jury for its 74th edition which will take place this year from July 6 to 17, 2021. Faithful to his commitments, the American director had promised to accompany the Festival for his return to the Croisette.
Prevented last year due to the health situation, the Cannes Film Festival opens this new decade with an exceptional President of the Jury, one of the greatest directors of his generation - also a screenwriter, actor, editor and producer. For 30 years, the indefatigable Spike Lee has acutely translated the questions of his time, in a resolutely contemporary form that never neglects lightness and fun.

“Throughout the uncertain months that have passed, Spike Lee has never ceased to cheer us on. This support is finally materializing and we could not hope for a more powerful personality to question our times so upset, ”underlines Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes. “His enthusiasm and passion for cinema give us increased energy to prepare for the great Festival that everyone is waiting for. We are very impatient! », Confides Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate.

From July 6 to 17, 2021 on the Croisette, these 12 summer days will fervently celebrate art, creation and the long-awaited reunion. Preparations are in full swing, with many films viewed by the selection committee.

The Festival will have the opportunity, in the coming weeks, to detail the contours of this 74th edition.

The Official Selection and the composition of the Jury will be announced in early June. Surrounded by the members of his Jury, Spike Lee will award the Palme d'Or at the end of the prize list on Saturday July 17th.
